Danni's Philly Cheesesteak Sloppy Joes

A smaller but just as messy version of the classic.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbs olive oil
  • 1 finely diced onion
  • minced garlic
  • 2 diced green bell peppers
  • 1 tbs cornstarch
  • 2 tbs ketchup
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 1/2 tsp beef bouillon 
  • 2 tbs Worcestershire 
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Spices: Oregano, Parsley, Salt, Pepper, Paprika and Red Pepper Flakes
  • Hamburger buns
  • Butter or Mayo for brushing the buns for toasting
  • Provolone cheese slices

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Brush sides of buns after slicing, (with butter or Mayo) and bake for 5 minutes.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add beef, onions and peppers. Cook until beef has browned, add garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. In bowl whisk together beef broth, beef bouillon and cornstarch. Mix until smooth.
  4. Add to meat mixture, then add ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, and all seasonings. Stir well.
  5. Gently simmer over medium heat, stirring until most of the liquid is absorbed.
  6. Stir in cheddar cheese until melted. Taste and season as needed. 
  7. If oven is off, preheat to 400 degrees again for baking the sandwiches.
  8. Divide the meat mix between 6 buns and a slice or 2 of Provolone cheese to the top. Bake ALL buns for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is completely melted.
  9. Top sandwiches and serve immediately.
