This recipe comes from, 'Tastes Better from Scratch' and it's absolute PERFECTION!

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbs Canola or Veg oil
  • 4-5 1/2 cups all purpose flour or bread flour

Directions:

  1. In large bowl add yeast, warm water and a pinch of the sugar. Let sit for 5 - 10 minutes, until bubbly.
  2. Add remaining sugar, salt, oil, and 3 cups of flour to start. Mix to combine. In mixer or by hand with wooden spoon.
  3. Once combined, add 1/2 cup of flour at a time, while mixing. Do this until dough begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl. The dough should be smooth and elastic. It should be slightly sticky to a clean finger. Add more flour if too sticky.
  4. Mix with mixer for 3-5 minutes or knead by hand for 5-8 minutes on a floured surface.
  5. Grease a large bowl with oil, and place dough inside, turn or flip over to entirely coat. cover with dish towel and allow to rise in a warm spot for 1 1/2 hours. It should be MUCH larger when done rising.
  6.  When ready, spray two 9x5 bread pans with cooking spray.
  7. Punch down dough to remove air bubbles, flip onto dry surface and cut into 2 equal parts. Shape into logs and place in prepared loaf pans.
  8. Spray a piece of plastic wrap with oil and gently lay over the top of each pan. Let rise for 1 more hour.
  9. PREHEAT oven to 350 degrees. Bake bread for 30-33 minutes, until golden brown. Give it a gentle tap on the top, it should sound hollow.
  10. Invert loaves onto a cooling rack and brush with butter. Allow to cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
  11. Store in a bag on the counter for 3 days and in the fridge for 5 days.
